If I get a new follower, then I read one of the articles and write my comment. Thereafter I invite them to read an article at their convenience. I don't consider that as a self-promotion because when someone has followed, I have given them my time and attention to read one of the articles and comment sincerely. Then I offer them to read one of my articles. It's completely okay if they don't.
