Sreevidya you have pointed out and explained your observations very well. I would like to add my observation based upon my story and the stories of others

Things are changing a lot. Both women and men in India are making independent decisions, getting academic scholarships, parents fund educatinal loan etc

It also depends on the parents whether they migrated or not. I found that parents (regardless of the reasons mentioned in the article ) who migrated from one part of India to another like South to North and moved cities due to their career allowed their kids to follow their passion. But the parents who just stayed in one city came across as embracing the reasons you quoted.

It is a two way thing. Children also need to be both assertive and aggressive in explaining to their parents why they want to what they want

Remember that the children receiving the care given by Indian parents served them in many ways that we can't simply take for granted.
