Thank you Janin for bringing out an excellent point. I think it is more a personal and cultural issue. Let me explain my opinion. I am in my sixties ( lol). While growing up in India we were not supposed to ask too many questions. I was / became shy to ask questions as I will be perceived as not knowing anything. When someone corrected me, first thought that came up was
"Lalitha you are not good enough. You don't know this. You are NOT doing or saying right." That put me in a shameful mode. As an evolving adult from single to married to mother to mother-in-law to grandmom, my thoughts, feelings and behaviors are changing. Also migrating to United States has allowed me to be more open minded, get into the learning mode instead of shaming mode.

I am very impressed with your ability to cope in different countries with learning and adjusting and being open to receive well when someone corrects you .
