If possible, ask if your therapist can keep psychotherapy notes in a more secure place, or at the very least, ask them to limit what they write. You can request, for example, that they omit detailed information about your family members’ problems or complaints about your boss, as this information could breach another person’s privacy as well. If they need to communicate with other healthcare professionals, ask that they speak confidentially with them by phone, rather than sending a letter or email that will be included in your EHR.
